A case study on how the use of patented Ultra-Red® fluorescing technology can aid in product verification.
Discover Why a Rapid Diagnostic Medical Device Was Failing
A manufacturer of rapid diagnostic medical devices was having an issue with field failures and rejection rates as high as 30%. Additionally, there were problems with adhesion and leaky cartridges. The application involved bonding a ceramic disc into a plastic well. The customer suspected that the adhesive used to assemble the parts together was not working or was the wrong material because the components were not adhering together properly. It was vital to quickly identify if the adhesive was the appropriate one for the application, and solving the problem was critical since the potential for additional field failures was great and the customer was line down until the issue was identified.
Utilize Dymax Patented Ultra-Red® Fluorescing Technology for Visual Product Confirmation
The manufacturer reached out to Dymax to see if the company could help solve the mystery. Some of the failed parts were sent to the lab for examination and root cause analysis. Upon close inspection, Application Engineering quickly determined the bond failure was due to the use of an incorrect adhesive. The product specified for the application was Dymax 1172-M-UR, an adhesive formulated with patented Ultra-Red fluorescing technology. Under low intensity black light, the exposed bond line on the component fluoresced blue and not red, an indication that it was a different company’s adhesive applied to the parts, and not 1172-M-UR.
Ultra-Red® Fluorescing Technology Helped Determine the Wrong Adhesive was Being Used
With the use of Ultra-Red fluorescing technology, Dymax Application Engineering could easily see that the adhesive used on the components was incorrect. Instant verification meant not having to go through a lengthy investigation and root cause analysis. This saved the company time and money and allowed them to get their manufacturing process up and running quickly.
